AmaZulu coach Pablo Franco Martin has explained Usuthu didn’t sign former Kaizer Chiefs youth product Omega Mdaka because they couldn’t agree to a compensation Amakhosi.
Martin had confirmed in November that Mdaka was training with the DDC side following his exit from Chiefs after he allegedly refused to be a ball boy among a few others during a home match in October.
Mdaka was released along with fellow defender Puso Dithejane, who was snapped up by TS Galaxy.
There were reports that Chiefs, who developed Mdaka in their academy, are due compensation since he is not older than 21 as per FIFA rules, and it appears Mdaka’s move to AmaZulu broke down due to that compensation.
“He [Omega Mdaka] was training with us for a week, but from there, I think he was a good player, very interesting for the club,” Martin told the media.
“For the future of the club, he showed 100% but from what I heard there was some problem with the negotiations between the clubs and his release clause from Chiefs, so it was impossible to finalise the deal.
“This is the only thing I heard and that was a long time ago and if I’m not mistaken that was November.”
