SuperSport United Chief Executive Officer Stan Matthews has given an update on defender Ime Okon, saying he has probably played his last match in South Africa last weekend.
The 20-year-old recently returned from a trial at Dynamo Kyiv in Ukraine, while he has also reportedly caught the eye of a Danish side.
Okon was promoted from the side’s development ranks two seasons ago and made 23 appearances in the league, scoring one goal and also knocked on the national team’s door.
He has featured in eight of the club’s 15 games this campaign, but Matthews confirmed that if everything goes according to plan Okon should be jetting out of the country soon and the club already has someone to replace him.
“We’ve got Ime Okon, we’ve got two opportunities for Ime that have come in, both big clubs,” said Matthews ahead of SSU’s 2-1 loss to AmaZulu, where Okon played the full 90 minutes, as per Ayanda Nyuswa.
“I anticipate that in the next few days Ime will probably also be going abroad and probably tomorrow night [vs AmaZulu] will probably be his last game for the club, if everything goes according to plan. But there’s another good young 20 year old player with a lot of scope to improve.

“And we’ve seen in the short time that he was training overseas now when he comes back the authority, the crispness of his passing, the way that he is playing that our players have a better chance of developing in a European environment where week in week out they are playing with the best against the best.”
