MCA Keen On Mokwena After Ben Yahia Exit

Algerian Ligue 1 champions Mouloudia Club d’Alger have made contact with Rulani Mokwena over their vacant head coach role.

MC Alger have won the league back-to-back after ending their 13 year drought in the Algerian top-flight, making them the joint-third most successful club in Algeria behind CR Belouizdad (10) and JS Kabylie who have 14 league crowns.

However, they are currently without a head coach after Khaled Ben Yahia left the club upon the expiry of his short-term contract after a season where MCA won the Algerian Super Cup and league title.

It’s been suggested the club were looking towards a new project to further develop the club with a less of a pragmatic style of football, and make inroads in the CAF Champions League after their return after over a decade as Algerian league champions.

iDiski Times understands Patrice Carteron, was among those who were offered to the club, while Manqoba Mnqgithi has also been discussed, and while there had been reservations of non-Arabic or non-French speaking successors to Ben Yahia, Mokwena’s become one of the leading candidates.

Mokwena has also been linked with a move to Egyptian Premier League side Pyramids in recent weeks, while SABC Sport reported he rejected two offers from the Gulf – as he looks to remain in the CAF Champions League next season.
