Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana has signed a three-year deal with Esperance Sportive de Tunis in a club-record sale for Sekhukhune United.
Esperance secured a club-to-club agreement with Sekhukhune earlier this month for an undisclosed fee which was confirmed as a ‘club record sale’ exceeding the transfer fee received for Yusuf Maart upon joining Kaizer Chiefs.

While there was interest from Kaizer Chiefs, Club Africain and Wydad Atheltic Club, the club refused to entertain other offers having agreed with Taraji and the player in the process of personal terms with the four-time African champions.
Among the contributing factors was the platform for Mokwana, with the CAF Champions League, African Football League and 2025 FIFA Club World Cup providing a major window to impress teams in Europe and the Gulf, as Babina Noko hold a resale percentage.
The player himself was keen on the lucrative move and previously stated it’s been a childhood dream to play abroad, with the move to Taraji viewed as a major next step of his career to chase silverware and further his career outside of South Africa.
Mokwana landed in Tunis for his medical and to complete his move to the club at midnight and has now made the move official, marking a meteoric rise from the ABC Motsepe League over the last three years.
The tricky winger has featured in the last four of Bafana’s games under Hugo Broos with draws against Andorra, Algeria and Nigeria, before the win over Zimbabwe, with the latter two games coming in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
