Banyana Banyana star Hildah Magaia has completed a loan to American side Kansas City Current from Mazatlan, the club announced on Wednesday.
Magaia had only joined the Liga MX Femenil side in January and helped them to climb off the foot of the table, scoring four goals.
On Wednesday Kansas City announced Magaia’s arrival – just a few days after the National Women’s Soccer League side beat South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.
“The Kansas City Current announced the signing of South African forward Hildah Magaia on loan for a fee from Mazatlán of the Liga MX Femenil Wednesday. Magaia’s loan lasts through the 2024 season, but Kansas City can acquire her rights on a permanent basis at the conclusion of the loan,” the club stated.
Magaia herself expressed her excitement about the move: “Kansas City is such a great place for football. I am eager to play in the NWSL and against some of the greatest players in the world.”
Meanwhile, Kansas City head coach Vlatko Andonovski revealed that the NWSL side have been following the 29-year-old for some time.
“We have been watching Hildah play for some time and we’re very happy that we can bring her to Kansas City now,” he said.
“We feel that she can be a great part of this team going forward.”
