Former Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United left-back Lyle Lakay has become the latest star to be unveiled by Motsepe Foundation Championship side Hope FC.

Lakay, 35, had been on the books of Siwelele FC last season but only made two starts in 10 appearances for the club.

He has now been picked up by MFC newbies Hope, who have put together an impressive transfer window so far.

“Welcome home, Lyle. Cape Town boy back in the Mother City,” the club stated on Wednesday.

“We’re excited to welcome the highly experienced Lyle Lakay to Hope FC.

“A decorated player in South African football and a former PSL Defender of the Season, Lyle brings invaluable experience, leadership and quality to The Immortals.

“We can’t wait to see him in the black and red.

“Welcome to Hope FC, Lyle.”

Lakay has featured 162 times for Sundowns, 109 times for Bloemfontein Celtic, made 70 appearances for SuperSport and another 55 for Cape Town City.

He has lifted five PSL trophies, one Nedbank Cup, one MTN8 and one Telkom Knockout Cup during his time at Masandawana.
