Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has confirmed that Khuliso Mudau picked up a serious injury in their 2-0 win over Marumo Gallants on Wednesday.
Mudau had to be stretchered off in the first half, being replaced by Zuko Mdunyelwa in the 38th minute in what looked like a serious injury.
After the final whistle, Cardoso was elated with his side’s win, but also confirmed that the right-back looks set to be sidelined for a while.
“I think Mudau has a very severe injury,” he said on SuperSport TV.
“It’s obviously for a player with his caliber, his quality, it’s a big loss for South Africa and for us especially.”
When asked whether it’s an achilles injury, Cardoso confirmed the news but also admitted the injury was picked up without the influence of an opponent.
“We believe so, it’s a very, very severe injury,” he added.
“He got injured outside the pitch in that action. I thought it was the one in the middle, but no. We reviewed the action. This one was not form a tackle, unfortunately Teboho is still not ok from that first match.
“This one was occasional. It happens, there are accidents in F1, there are injuries in football.
“But it’s a big loss. I hope the others race for the challenge ahead, of course.”
Cardoso later confirmed in the post-match press conference that the right-back has ruptured his achilles.
