Official: SSU Announce First 2023/24 Signing

SuperSport United have announced the signing of Zimbabwe international defender Ronald Tapiwa Pfumbidzai, who joins the club on a pre-contract, as previously reported by idiski Times.

The Chippa United man, who’s comfortable at left-back and centre-back looks set to fill the hole left by the imminent exit of Thatayaone Ditlhokwe to Kaizer Chiefs, while PSL legend Onismor Bhasera is said to be considering retirement at the end of the current season.

The club officially confirmed the signing of the former Bloemfontein Celtic full-back, who arrived in South Africa back in 2017 after a stint in Denmark, on Wednesday.

“SuperSport United FC would like to confirm the signature of Zimbabwean international defender Ronald Pfumbidzai on a pre-contract from Chippa United FC,” SSU stated.

“The 28-year old will join his new teammates from 1 July 2023 and has signed a two-year-deal with an option.”

It marks another shrewd piece of business from CEO Stan Matthews and head coach Gavin Hunt as they look to bolster their squad in his second season at the club, that’s brought a new sense of optimism around Matsasansa, as they occupy second place in the league going into the final seven games of the 2022/23 season.

Hunt has fielded the likes of Neo Rapoo and Thapelo Maseko as make-shift defenders this season when Bhasera was not available for selection, making that role one of the priority additions for next season.

And the 28-year-old will arrive with vast experience of the DStv Premiership and international experience with the Warriors as they look to hit the ground running.
