SuperSport United have continued their impressive transfer window and signed Bafana Bafana defender Siyanda Xulu.

Xulu, 31, had been without a club after leaving Azerbaijan Premyer Liga side Turan-Tovuz IK at the end of last season.

He had been linked with a PSL return, with AmaZulu also said to be interested in his services, but Matsatsantsa beat them to his signature, announcing his arrival on a two-year with an option to extend on Friday.

“I think he is someone who can fit in well in the club. He has a lot of experience. He wants to do it and I have known him for a very long time. He can also help out with the younger players that we’ve got,” coach Gavin Hunt stated.

“We can try form a very good combination. He’s a big signing for us and I’m happy that he’s here. He is tough, quick and a great defender. Good character as well which is needed in that position. He’s number one in Bafana which is a great signing for the club.”

Xulu, meanwhile, stated that he is happy to return home and play in the Premier Soccer League again.

“I am feeling very grateful. It’s another opportunity to play at home which is something that I needed now. When you get to this age, the one thing you need the most is stability,” he added.

“SuperSport United gave me what I needed at the right time. I’m very excited for the new journey, the reason why I joined the club is because I saw a team that was headed to the right direction. I need the other guys to help me get organised just, so we can get to business.”

Xulu previously played for Mamelodi Sundowns, Rostov in Russia, Kaizer Chiefs, Maritzburg United, Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel before his last spell with Turan. He has also made 25 appearances for Bafana Bafana, where is a permanent feature in Hugo Broos’ squad, helping them to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
