Mamelodi Sundowns have parted ways with midfielder-turned-defender Bongani Zungu after two years.

Zungu joined the club in August 2022 after leaving French side Amiens. The 31-year-old made 30 appearances for Masandawana this past season, but announced his departure on Friday.

“I would like to thank Mamelodi Sundowns fans, technical team and the President for the last two seasons,” the player wrote on social media.

“The relationship I have with the club is beyond the professional space, sundowns will always be family to me and the entire Zungu family.

“I will always be grateful for every opportunity I was offered, so I say this with a heavy heart that I will be leaving the club.

“Thank you to all the amazing supporters who have been amazing to me throughout, I will always be grateful.

“I wish the team all the best, I know bigger success awaits you. I can’t say this enough, Thank You KBY.”

Overall, he has featured 123 times in two stints with Masandawana, winning four league titles, one Nedbank Cup and one Telkom Knockout as well as the African Football League title.

He first joined Sundowns in 2013 from AmaTuks and stayed until January 2016, then went to Vitória de Guimarães in Europe. After one season in Portugal, he joined Amiens, but also had a loan spell at Rangers, lifting the Scottish league title under Steven Gerrard.
