Pirates Bid Accepted By Petro For Angola Star

Orlando Pirates have seen their $600,000 bid accepted for Petro De Luanda winger Gilberto.

Gilberto, 23, comes off an impressive season where he starred at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, helping Angola to reach the quarter-finals of the competition.

His form continued at club level with Petro, the club he joined from CRB Libolo in 2022 and has scored six goals with four assists in 34 games.

Sivasspor, Raja Atheltic Club, CR Belouizdad, AS FAR, MKE Ankaragücü and Club Dynamo Makhachkala had all made approaches to Petro, but Pirates have reached an agreement with the Angolan outfit in a deal worth $600,000 (R11 million).

The winger’s buy-out clause was set at $750,000 (R13.6 million) but sources within Petro said they’ve reached an agreement with Pirates and allowed the player to travel to South Africa to discuss personal terms.

Talks will now continue for a long-term contract with the Buccaneers and the tricky winger who has emerged as one of the brightest talents in Africa over recent years.
