Pirates Land New Signing, Mariko Set For Loan

Orlando Pirates have agreed to sign Mali Ligue 1 Player of the Year Abdoulaye Mariko from Djoliba, while his namesake, who recently arrived in South Africa is poised for a loan move.

Mariko, 21, won the most coveted honour in the Mali top-light, netting 14 league goals, and is capable of playing across the front-three positions and as a 10; which will provide attacking depth to the Pirates squad.

He’s set to arrive in South Africa on Sunday, with a two-year deal agreed, subject to a routine medical check and becoming the 11th signing for the Buccaneers in the current window – ahead of their trip to Spain for pre-season under new head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

Sipho Mbule, Yanela Mbuthuma, Masindi Nemtajela, Tshepang Moremi, Sinoxolo Kwayiba, Tshepo Mashiloane, Sihle Nduli, Oswin Appollis, and Nkosikhona Ndaba have been confirmed as their new arrivals.

The 22-year-old Mariko, who also joins from Djoliba, has also signed but is yet to be announced, arrived and started training with the club, is a holding midfielder is likely to join Chippa United on a season-long loan.
