Pirates Reject Bid For Mofokeng

Orlando Pirates have rejected an approach from Russian Premier League side FC Akron Tolyatti for winger Relebohile Mofokeng.

Mofokeng, 20, has been subject of intense interest in recent months since emerging as one of the leading talents on the continent since being promoted from the DStv Diski Challenge squad two years ago.

Just four games shy of 100 first team appearances, back-to-back Young Player of the Year awards in the league and has already racked up nine senior international caps for the South Africa national team.

In the current window, the likes to Al-Ettifaq, Maccabi Haifa, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Minnesota United have all been strongly linked with the player and iDiski Times has been informed Akron was the latest to submit an offer to the club.

While the interest from Israel cooled down, with both clubs moving on to other targets, and the Major League Soccer (MLS) transfer window closing – the Russian club has been the latest to make an approach.

It’s been confirmed to this publication Akron submitted a $1.5-million (R26m) offer to the Buccaneers, which was rejected, with Mofokeng, looking set to remain at the club beyond the end of the current transfer window.

Mofokeng has scored 18 goals with 22 assists in 96 games for the club across all competitions, since making his debut in May 2023.
