South Africa international midfielder Luke Le Roux has parted ways with English Championship club Portsmouth with immediate effect.
ortsmouth confirmed on Thursday that the midfielder has reached a mutual agreement with the club to terminate his contract, bringing his time on the south coast to an early end.
“Pompey can announce a mutual agreement with Luke Le Roux for him to end his contract with the club,” Portsmouth confirmed.
The 26-year-old joined Portsmouth from Swedish side IFK Värnamo in July 2025, signing a three-year deal with the Championship club.
Le Roux had made the move to England after establishing himself in Europe, having previously played for Varbergs BoIS and FC Volendam before returning to Sweden with Värnamo.
His Portsmouth spell ultimately lasted just over a year, with the midfielder making appearances for Pompey before his departure was confirmed.
The timing of the announcement comes shortly after the closure of the English transfer window, with Le Roux having been absent from Portsmouth’s matchday squad for their recent defeat to Derby County.
The South African’s future now becomes the immediate question, particularly with the midfielder continuing to be part of the Bafana Bafana picture.
Le Roux has been capped by South Africa at senior level after progressing through the country’s youth ranks and made his international debut in 2022.
His next move will therefore be closely watched as he looks to secure regular football following his early exit from Portsmouth.
The midfielder’s departure also brings an unexpected end to his attempt to establish himself in the English second tier after making the switch from Scandinavia.
Portsmouth’s announcement did not provide further details on the circumstances behind the mutual termination.
Le Roux is now a free agent and will be able to consider his options as he looks for the next chapter of his European career.
