Glasgow Rangers are set to complete the transfer of Olwethu Makhanya from Philadelphia Union today in a deal worth $4.5-million.
The 22-year-old who has been subject of major interest across Europe has seen several bids rejected for his services from the Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit over the last few weeks but after making it known he wants an exit, Rangers reached an agreement this weekend over the transfer fee.

Personal terms have now been ironed out for a ‘long-term contract’. It’s believed he is in Glasgow with his agent, Matthew Moore of Centre Circle Consulting, and the announcement is imminent.
It marks an incredible new chapter for Makhanya who joined Union 18 months ago from Stellenbosch and needed to bide his time in the MLS Next Pro side before making his breakthrough under then head coach Bradley Carnell.
He emerged as one of the leading performers in the league where they won the MLS Supporters Shield – the most points accrued in a single season – and earned a spot in the senior national team for South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
