Stellenbosch FC are edging closer to securing the signing of Happy Mashiane, while Promise Mkhuma has also arrived for assessment.

iDiski Times understands that Stellenbosch are on the verge of signing Mashiane on a free transfer after he arrived on Saturday.

Mashiane, 28, saw his career taking a sharp decline since the 2021 CAF Champions League final where he received a red card against Al Ahly SC.

The left-back made 26 appearances for Chiefs that campaign, but things haven’t been the same since, as he gradually dropped down the pecking order, resulting in a loan to Siwelele FC last campaign.

However, he made just one appearance under Lehlohonolo Seema and was later released by Chiefs after agreeing to mutually part ways.

Meanwhile, Mkhuma had a similar drop-off in his career after a promising start at Mamelodi Sundown under Pitso Mosimane, making his debut in 2020.

Two years down the line he was loaned to Moroka Swallows FC but didn’t last long as he returned to Sundowns and was then loaned out Cape Town All Stars. He spent six months in with All Stars before he was loaned to University of Pretoria.

Downs released him in July 2024 and immediately Upington City snatched him up. But he only lasted a year with Bafana Ba Gucci before he was released and was in the wilderness last campaign.

Hunt, the man who often gives opportunities to players, has once again stepped up the hand the two footballers a chance to bounce back.

The Cape Winelands-side are assembling a team that will compete for a spot in the top eight after they dropped into the relegation battle last campaign.

So far, Stellies have announced the signing of Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Thabiso Lebitso, while moves for Kabelo Dlamini and Njabolu Blom seem to have broken down.
