Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi has suggested that Kaizer Chiefs should consider signing a goalkeeper like Elvis Chipezeze as well as three Stellenbosch FC stars.
The Zimbabwean keeper led PSL rookies Magesi FC to an automatic promotion to top flight last season and a historic Carling Knockout Cup glory in November in the side’s first few months in the big league.
Chiefs, who are trying to get back to glory days after enduring almost a decade without a trophy, have had an inconsistent start to the current season and have just one clean sheet in all competitions from their goalkeepers.
After their 1-0 defeat to Cape Town City in the league on Sunday they sit in seventh place with 15 points from 11 games.
Tso says if he was in charge of the side and had the resources he’d raid Stellenbosch FC because they have quality in many areas but also consider the Magesi captain in goals.
“At least Chipezeze would save the team,” said Tso on iDiski TV.
“I mean we saw him saving there at Magesi several times so he can do the very same thing at Chiefs. He’d need a good solid defense.
“I wouldn’t want to take all of Steve Barker’s players because he’s got quality players. But [Ismael] Traore will do, then in midfield have [Sihle] Nduli and [Jayden] Adams and in attack he can get someone when the season ends.
“I’m sorry to coach Steve Barker, I like him a lot, he’s got good players but a big team like Kaizer Chiefs they must go there and get players, get their spinal cord strong and get a goalkeeper, someone like Chipezeze.”
