Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies saw off Costa Do Sol 4-1 at Gaborone United Stadium on Tuesday to finish their group stage campaign at the CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA qualifiers with a perfect record.

Coach Godfrey Sapula made wholesome changes for the clash against the Mozambican champions including in goals handing young goalkeeper Kgomotso Mussimango a start.

Sundowns scored as early as the seventh minute from the penalty spot courtesy of Asanda Hadebe after Ronnel Donnelly was brought down in the box. Do Sol keeper was kept busy and denied Boitumelo Rabale from a free-kick minutes after their opener and also Nthabiseng Majiya in a one v one situation.

The Hollywoodbets Super League champions were relentless in getting a second goal and it came from new signing Wendy Shongwe in the 19th minute. She netted her first goal in Brazilian colours heading home a Rabale set-piece.

Majiya looking to make it 3-0 just at the half hour mark hit the woodwork. But four minutes later Hadebe set-up Donnelly and the latter didn’t make a mistake as she scored Sundwons’ third goal giving them a comfortable 3-0 lead at the break.

Munashe Mugwara replaced Majiya as the only change for Sundowns at the start of the second half. The teenager missed the target seven minutes into the half shooting over the bar. Katleho Malebana also tested the keeper with a powerful shot from range and missed the target by an inch.

Do Sol scored a rather contentious goal from a Lucia Leila corner in the 59th minute the only goal Sundowns have conceded at the tournament so far. Mugwara had another shot to score but was denied by the keeper a minute later. Melinda Kgadiete who was introduced later in the half headed home the winner in the 81st minute from a Lehlogonolo Mashigo assist.

Sundowns have set up a semi-final clash with hosts Gaborone United to be played on Thursday at GU Stadium while the other last four clash is between ZESCO Ndola Girls and Silver Strikers.
