Kaizer Chiefs dropped two points at home against a stubborn Stellenbosch FC side, picking up their fifth draw in their last six league games.
Chiefs started the game well, putting Stellies under pressure and pressing them more in their half but didn’t trouble Sage Stephens.
Instead, Stellenbosch was the first threat after 21 minutes as Sinoxolo Kwayiba hit the post with a right-footed shot from the centre of the box after a great pass from Quwan Plaatjies.
Stephens was called into action in the 30th minute after denying Wandile Dube following a glorious one-on-one chance. Three minutes later, Stephens once again denied Inacio Miguel from a very close range.
The game became more physical from Chiefs as a result, with Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Thabo Moloisane booked in the first half.
Whatever Gavin Hunt said to his troops in the locker room worked perfectly well as Sinoxolo Kwayiba opened the scoring after 47 minutes, with a beautiful assist from Terrence Mashego.
In the 57th minute, Reeve Frosler played a ball the top, which Mdududzi Shabalala controlled very well and beat Siviwe Nkwali before taking a shot to the near post of Stephens to draw level 1-1.
Both sides were going at each other as they both introduced forwards when they made substitutions, with Flavio Silva making his return for Chiefs after two months out of action, while Hunt introduced PSL record chaser Bradley Grobler.
Referee Sikhumbuzo Gasa blew the final whistle as both sides shared the spoils. Chiefs failed to collect maximum points for the third consecutive game, with Stellenbosch taking a point away from home.
Amakhosi will shift focus to the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round when they face Zambian side Red Arrows over the weekend. Meanwhile, Stellies will welcome Chippa United down in Cape Town.
