Willy Moloto has confirmed his decision to step down as Polokwane City head coach as of this morning, iDiski Times can confirm.

Moloto has been missing from City’s dugout since September after collapsing during the Betway Premiership match against AmaZulu. He left for the medical room mid-first half of the 1-0 defeat to Usuthu with what looked like respiratory challenges and was eventually taken to hospital.

The former Pretoria Callies and University of Pretoria assistant coach went on to miss the side’s last three matches including the first round of the Carling Knockout with Sheppard Sentane entrusted with guiding the team in his absence.

Moloto broke the news to this publication that he felt it was unfair that he kept receiving his salary while not working, so he moved to quit in act to not be selfish.

“Yes, I have resigned,” said Moloto to ‘Diski Times.

“Just to focus on my health. I want to focus on my health, and I don’t want to be selfish towards the team. You know, I’ve been with the team for the past I can say eight weeks. So, it’s unfair for the team to pay me, where else I’m not giving anything to them. So sometimes we need to put the team first and put us next.”

Asked how the club chairman Johnny Mogaladi received the news, this is what Moloto said.

“I don’t know because I just sent an email today,” he added.

Moloto further said he feels he did well in his short stint with the Rise and Shine first team who leaves in 11th position on the league log with eight points in nine outings.
