Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler says his team are happy to be the underdogs in Saturday’s MTN8 final against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Both teams will be going into the first cup final of the season, on the back of victories, with City having beaten Golden Arrows 4-3 in the DStv Premiership, while Sundowns were 2-0 victors against AS Maniema in the CAF Champions League.
Tinkler says that all the players are excited and he is pleased to have them going in with a positive mindset.
“Ja, I think, beginning of the week, a positive result over the weekend, obviously in the league was very, very important,” Tinkler said in a press conference on Monday.
“So today, this morning at training, the mood was very, very good. And you can see already, how the players are responding, in a positive mindset leading up obviously to the game on the weekend.
“I think it’s a week to savour. I think that’s important for the teams, to to enjoy the moment, you’ve managed to get yourself to a final. “
The CT city coach also insisted that Sundowns are definitely favourites, but having the underdog tag is something he doesn’t mind having.
“And you playing a very, very good team in Mamelodi Sundowns, who are definite favourites, and we go in as the underdogs,” he continued.
“And that’s a good position to be in, in my opinion, to be the underdog.
“So we will work extremely hard during the week in terms of our preparation and our planning.
“And I’m pretty confident that the boys will want to go out there and put on a good performance come Saturday.”
