Pirates Give Worrying Jele Update

Orlando Pirates co-caretaker coach Fadlu Davids has given a worrying update on the injury of captain Happy Jele, saying he will undergo scans on Friday but “it doesn’t look good”.

Jele had to be substituted in the second half of the Buccaneers 1-1 draw with Royal AM when he was replaced by Thulani Hlatshwayo.

The defender could join Pirates ever-growing injury list, which already has the likes of Thembinkosi Lorch, Vincent Pule and Zakhele Lepasa, with Davids insisted the club has to await the results from medical assessments.

“He’ll go for his scans on Friday but at the moment it looks like a knee problem,” he told reporters after the match.

“We don’t know the extent of it. The doctors have checked him but now, of course, with the swelling, we’re not really able to make a diagnosis at this very moment.

“Tomorrow we’ll have the scans and get more information, but it doesn’t look good.”

Jele has featured in all 10 games for Pirates this season, helping the Buccaneers defence only to concede nine times across all competitions so far this campaign.
