Chippa United striker Rodney Ramagalela has opened up on the tragedies he’s suffered over the last three years and thanked South Africans for their support on and off the field.
The veteran’s house was burned to ashes in his home village, Mamvuka in Limpopo, with no clear indication of what could have happened.
Speaking to iDiski Times writer Lethabo Kganyago recently, Ramagalela has said even if he could have managed to call the firefighters, by the time he found out nothing would have changed as he stays far from the station.
“What I asked about was how big was the fire, if it could be stopped or if there could have been a room or two to save,” he told iDiski Times.
“The person who called was crying, and they said the house was on fire, and it is almost finished. That’s when I realized that there was nothing the people could have done.
“I live 40 km from the fire station, you can understand that even if they were called, by the time they would have arrived the house would have been gone. When they came it was already late, there was nothing inside.”
The 32-year-old goal-poacher has sadly added that this comes in a time where he is going through a lot in his life, but is happy that people have shown support at this difficult situation.
“Lethabo for the last three years I have gone through so much. If you can remember, I lost my daughter in August 2019 and November of the same year my mother died,” he said.
“The following year I went for an ankle operation, and this year, this happened. So, it has been a rough couple of years for me personally. I want to say to everyone who is interested in helping in whatever they can, thank you.
“As I speak to you now, there are people who have shown interest and some of them are showing the signs of doing something, like the guy who did the plan for the house.
“As it is now we have to rebuild it and the guy is busy designing a new plan for the house. So, anyone who would to help in any way they are more than welcome to assist, the responses show people actually care not only about what I do on the field.”
