Mozambican international Edmilson Dove is a free agent and able to join a club of his choice, after being handed his clearance by Cape Town City during the January transfer window.
iDiski Times reported on Monday that the 27-year-old could be on his way out of City, and it has now been confirmed that he and City agreed to a mutual termination at the beginning of the week, before the deadline.
Dove joined City back in 2017, midway through the club’s first season in the DStv Premiership, and featured over 100 times for the Cape Town club.
After sitting out the 2020/2021 season while recovering from knee surgery, he returned to find himself playing second fiddle to Bafana Bafana international Terrence Mashego, who had claimed the left-back spot.
A source has revealed that there is a strong possibility that Dove could follow Abbubaker Mobara to AmaZulu, to re-unite with former coach Benni McCarthy, if the two parties can agree on terms.
Mobara was unveiled by Usuthu last week, and Dove, who was once compared by McCarthy to Sergio Ramos, could be an ideal candidate to strengthen his team, especially ahead of the CAF Champions League group stages.
However AmaZulu’s foreign quota is full, which could be a stumbling block, unless Dove is able to apply for South African residency after five years in the country.
