Chiefs Clarify Stance On Mbule Transfer

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jnr. has addressed the concerns of supporters over their transfer activity and opened up on the Sipho Mbule saga.

Chiefs have long been linked with a move to Mbule but SuperSport issued a hands-off warning to the club while Mamelodi Sundowns are also said to be interested in the midfield talent.

However, the club’s CEO Stan Matthews put any potential move on hold due to the sale of Teboho Mokoena while publically questioning the professionalism of the South Africa international.

Amakhosi supporters were left up in arms with question marks raised about the ambition of the club and why they weren’t willing to break the bank for Mbule, which Motaung Jnr. has since opened up about.

“We’re in the business of football so whether you’re at Barcelona, Chelsea, Real Madrid, you really think Real or other teams, no matter what the figure is, they would always pay it? It’s not the case,” Motaung Jnr. said during the Khosi Space on Twitter.

“I take the point that it’s part of what we have to do but there’s a big misconception, the team has bought players, the team has to pay salaries and you have to plan for all of these things to happen. The team has been in the transfer market.

“If for example, our fans want Sipho Mbule, I also want Sipho Mbule, we all want Sipho Mbule, but if Stan Matthews says Sipho Mbule is going nowhere, that’s not me saying the club is running away from a number or we don’t want to pay.”

Stellenbosch forward Ashley Du Preez is another player that has been strongly linked with the club as the Sporting Director spoke in general terms and not in the single case of the Mbule persuit.

“It’s all about transactions and again we need to understand that a lot of the time, our rivals, people don’t want to do business with you, that’s just the industry you’re in. So I just want to clear it’s a huge misconception.

“You have to assess it based on the situation, I don’t think there are clubs that you know pay and sign without looking at the return on investment, you’re gonna put out money and say listen this is what we’re going to achieve from that.

“Transfers are always a bit of a tricky one for people because sometimes people have the misconception that the team doesn’t spend money. But if you look at the money that is spent, it’s a lot of money. Salaries are factored into that – I take the point but we’re always looking to be as competitive as we can be in the transfer market.”
