Mandla Ncikazi has admitted the coaching duo are currently underperforming on the expectations presented to them by Orlando Pirates.
The co-coach was speaking after his side’s 3-2 comeback victory over SuperSport United, which saw them overturn a 2-0 deficit thanks to two Deon Hotto penalties and a last-minute stunner by Goodman Mosele.
The victory saw Pirates, who recently dropped out of the Nedbank Cup, move to fourth position on the log, level on 35 points with Kaizer Chiefs, but having played four more games – and Ncikazi admitted they are not satisfied with their campaign so far.
“Any coach who works at Pirates wouldn’t be happy for the position the club,” he said on Wednesday.
“The club has got demands that are clear. When you join the club, they make a presentation, so we agree that we’re far below the expectations that management has placed in front of us.
“I acknowledge that we’re not where we are and it’ll be bad of me to make excuses of why we’re not where we are.
“We just have to keep on working on what we can control, scoring the chances in front of goal. You even saw today of how many balls were flying in front of goal.
“You know the match that we played previously, just a tap-in [and] you score a goal and then you let in goals that are unnecessary.
“If the blame goes to the coach, we accept we’ve not made the requirements. But it’s building blocks. When it’s like this we know what is the problem and we know we have the capacity to change things for the better.”
Pirates now shift their focus back to the CAF Confederations Cup, where they will face Saoura in Algeria on Sunday.
