There will be a few familiar faces at Harry Gwala Stadium as Maritzburg United and Cape Town Spurs battle it out to secure a place in the DStv Premiership tonight.
It has come down to the final game in the round-robin PSL Promotional Play-offs, with Spurs currently leading the race, as they have won all three of their previous games so far, and need a draw or win to secure promotion.
But a victory for the home team would see the Team of Choice finish ahead of Spurs on goal difference and retain their place in the top flight.
While a trip to Harry Gwala can always be a daunting prospect, Shaun Bartlett hopes having three experienced former Maritzburg players in his team could be key.
The three players in question – Clayton Daniels, Nazeer Allie and Michael Morton – have been integral members of the Spurs side this season, and Bartlett is hoping for one more big game from the trio.
Daniels and Allie only left Maritzburg at the end of last season, with the former spending two campaigns there after joining from SuperSport United, while Allie was there for four seasons.
Morton on the other hand spent three seasons at the KwaZulu-Natal club, but left a decade ago.
“We saw in the first game, the determination and commitment from [Allie] and Clayton especially,” Bartlett said about his veterans when asked by iDiski Times.
“We’re going there, and putting in the shift that they did, there was another hunger and desire to want to win the game, because obviously it’s a former employee and maybe felt a little bit injustice handed to them, not getting contracts.
“But at the end of the day, it’s making sure they do the best here. Now it’s also about securing contracts here. And then moving forward is to get promotion as our secondary goal.”
The game kicks off at 19:30 at Harry Gwala Stadium tonight.
