Kaizer Chiefs duo Itumeleng Khune and Ashley du Preez, as well as Orlando Pirartes’ Kermit Erasmus are the front-runners for the Carling All-Star Team voting polls.
With the Black Label Cup now less than two months away it’s bound to be an interesting voting process with Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns players all eligible due to being eliminated from the Carling Knockout.
This All-Star PSL team will face the winner of the competition for a once-off Black Label Cup, which will take place on January 6 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
According to the latest figures by Calling, 1.4-million votes have already been cast for the players’ the supporters want to see at the inaugural event in Polokwane, with the voting lines closing on 21 December.
TS Galaxy, Stellenbosch, AmaZulu and Richards Bay are surprisingly vying for the title to face the All-Stars – in which Khune, Du Preez and Erasmus have all around 23,000 votes already.
Monnapule Saleng leads the voting in midfield joined by two midfielders from Chiefs and AmaZulu’s DStv Diski Challenge squad, respectively, while Paseka Mako and Olisa Ndah lead the race in defence.
However, it’s likely Mako will be replaced due to a serious injury suffered that will likely keep him out for another five months.
Jose Riveiro currently leads the poll for the All-Star coach with African Football League-winning tactician Rulani Mokwena trailing in second place.
But as things stand it could be between the Spaniard, Mokwena or Steve Barker, who are in the top-three for the voting, will lead the squad, which will comprise of six DStv Premiership players and five DDC talents.
