Moroka Swallows goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has discussed facing his former side Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Premiership this coming Sunday.
The Nigerian goalkeeper spent two-and-a-half seasons with Amakhosi, joining them from Chippa United in January 2019.
But the 37-year-old was among the players who were let go by Chiefs after the 2021/22 season when his contract had expired.
After being club-less for a few months, he joined Swallows in January after the departure of Jody February and Thakasani Mbanjwa.
This season, he has made 10 appearances in the league, keeping four clean sheets, while conceding just six goals.
While Akpeyi admitted facing his former side will be a bit emotional, he also insisted he will treat the game like any other clash, with the most important thing being to get three points and keep their good momentum in the league.
“It’s just a regular feeling when you have to play any PSL team because your first goal is for you to grab a three points and stay on top of the league, like where we are at the moment,” Akpeyi told the media.
“It’s gonna be a bit emotional because you’re playing against a team that put you on top of the ladder. I think it’s gonna be all about it.
“The most important thing is the three points.”
Swallows enter the game on the back of five unbeaten games in the DStv Premiership, which has seen them climb to fifth on the log, while Chiefs have suffered four defeats in their last five matches and are in 10th, but Akpeyi says he still expects a tough encounter.
“I think playing that is kind of struggling is a difficult one to play,” he added.
“It’s not going to be an easy one on Sunday because they are looking for points everywhere, we are looking to sustain our position on the log.
“So this is going to be a case of two lions fighting, at the end of the day. But we’re already expecting what’s to come at the end of the day and we’ve prepared for it.”
