Phuti Previews Sundowns Clash

Polokwane City head coach Phuti Mohafe says their 1-0 win over Stellenbosch FC over the weekend is exactly the confidence booster his side needs ahead of their Betway Premiership match against Mamelodi Sundowns.

City, who sit in sixth place on the standings with 37 points, host the defending champions in Seshego in midweek looking to get their second victory in a row at home and to cement their place in the top eight.

Sundowns are looking for their first victory in three matches as they also look to topple Orlando Pirates from the summit of the log as they sit right behind them on the log with 58 points and just a point separating them.

Mohafe admitted it will not be easy facing Sundowns who are also challenging for the CAF Champions League title, but emphasised Rise and Shine won’t just honour a fixture but fight for maximum points.

“That one is a mountain to climb against Sundowns, because we don’t know which team we are going to play of Sundowns,” said Mohafe.

“But it [the win] boosted the confidence, it gave us courage and we will go to play Sundowns, not to go and honour the match.

“We are going there to fight for the three points, and if the three points are available, then why not? Let’s get them.

“And I think it [the win] also gave us an edge to say we are playing at home, you have won the first match at home, so can’t you make it two in a row? So, it is possible for us to make it two in a row. I’m not undermining Sundowns.

“It is a big team, it’s a team that is playing in Africa. They are competing well, but we are also looking for three points. So, let’s go and fight for three points on offer.”
