Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has agreed the style of play will be altered under his tutelage this season.
Mngqithi oversaw pre-season for the club in Austria – after the exit of Rulani Mokwena as head coach – where they played SV Sandhausen, Dynamo Kyiv, Cardiff City, Al Arabi and Al Hilal which the technical team described as a great preparation for the new campaign.

While they suffered back to back to defeats and a draw in their opening three games, the doubleheader against the Qatari and Saudi Arabian giants saw a major improvement in display and victories with a notable change in style within their build-up play.
“If you have seen the team I have coached, you will note, I always like and enjoy faster football,” he said when asked by iDiski Times about their notable change in playing style.
“I believe in that type of game, the only time I would ask players to be patient, which does not mean the speed of the ball should be slow but you are less committal when you playing against a low block where you don’t want to lose possession easily and be caught on the counter.
“But personally, I believe more especially, if you’re going to create two or three chances in a match you might not win, but if you create 10 you might score one. So in my opinion of how I see football, you have to try to… in as much as we play for ball possession, you must also play attacking football.
“And there’s a very clear difference in possession football and attacking football and personally I’m a coach who prefers to attack the lines than to enjoy longer spells of possession.”
Sundowns open up their season in the MTN8 against Polokwane City on Saturday afternoon at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium at 15h00.
