Royal AM head coach John Maduka has defended club Chairman Andile Mpisane’s selection following another underwhelming performance, saying they wanted to give him a chance to play after naming him in his starting eleven.
Thwihli Thwahla salvaged a point in the 84th minute through Motebang Sera’s half volley, who had come in to replace Mpisane, to hold Cape Town City to a 1-1 draw at Harry Gwala Stadium after Prins Tjiueza had given the visitors an eighth-minute lead.
It was however Mpisane’s inclusion that caught the headlines having previously being criticized for not being selected based on merit.
Speaking in his post-match presser, the former Maritzburg United mentor jumped to Mpisane’s defense, saying the player did what whas instructed.

“To come to Chairman, yeah we gave him a chance,” Maduka told the media after the match.
“You know he played whatever. He did whatever he was supposed to do, then you had to make a change to put someone else.
“I mean it’s part of football. It’s part of the game.
“Things like that you know will happen here and there. It will happen so many times and yeah life goes on.
“It’s just a normal situation whereby you know if he’s given a chance to play, he plays.
“There is times maybe he’ll be given maybe 15 minutes, the last 15 minutes or 20 minutes in situations like that depending on what’s happening in the field of play,” Maduka added.
