Pitso Mosimane has started his reign at Esteghlal FC with a 3-1 defeat to Kheybar Khorramabad in the Persian Gulf Pro League, which was his first official match in charge.
The South African tactician has started a new project, trying to revive the oldest Iranian professional club.
He was unveiled by Esteghlal on Friday and for the first time on the sidelines on Saturday.
However, things didn’t go to plan as Mosimane’s new side lost 3-1 to 13th-placed Kheybar. The home side scored the opener after 10 minutes via Mehrdad Ghanbari and carried their slender lead into the break.
Mosimane’s side equalised after 55 minutes following a header by Ramin Rezaeian but Kheybar were back in front just four minutes later thanks to Masoud Mohebi.
Mohsen Sefid Choghaei put the final nail in the Esteghlal coffin when making it 3-1 in the fourth minute of injury time.
Esteghlal dropped to 12th place on the log and are now winless in seven successive games. They next face sixth-placed Tractor on 30 October.
