Exclusive: RamaG Hangs Up His Boots

Former Black Leopards, Mamelodi Sundowns and Polokwane City striker Rodney Ramagalela has officially retired from the game.

RamaG, 35, opted to call it quits on his career, having been without a club since leaving AmaTuks in July 2023.

Ramagalela won the 2013/14 DStv Premiership title and the 2014/15 Nedbank Cup with Mamelodi Sundowns, four years later he won the golden boot award by scoring 11 goals in the colours of Polokwane City.

His last full campaign was in 2020/21 with Polokwane City, but he also suffered personal losses after the sad passing of his daughter, as well as his mother in 2019, while his house burnt down in 2021.

The well-liked striker recently scored a gig with MTN8 and was one of the legends involved in this year’s campaign, as he is now focussed on the next stage of his career.

“Rama G has retired. Last year I did have big thoughts about it,” he told iDiski Times.

“I was fighting in my mind because this was not the way I wanted to retire or announce my retirement.

“However, I had to come to terms with the fact that mentally I’ve been broken. So it wasn’t an easy decision for me to come to terms with, that I would have to retire now.

“But I think it’s time that I leave the beautiful game. Yesterday I really came to terms with the fact that now it’s time, so yes Rama G is retired.”
