Riveiro – There’s No Distractions After Exit Confirmation

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro says there’s no distractions around the team and they are ready to overcome MC Alger for a place in the final of the CAF Champions League.

Pirates go into the second leg quarter-final tomorrow at Orlando Stadium with a 1-0 advantage and away goal from Mohau Nkota’s strike in Algiers last week.

Progress to the next round could see them face Pyramids or ASFAR, with the Egyptian Premier League side holding a massive 4-1 advantage from their first leg.

“It’s a second half of this quarter-final of the champions league so there’s no other way to face the match than really proud to be here of the last eight of the competition, a very complex competition,” Riveiro said.

“We want to enjoy, every moment, every minute of the game, not forgetting the responsibility that we have and the opportunity we have to win the match – to try to beat MC Alger one more time and hopefully to find ourselves in the next round.

“We know it will be a big challenge because of the moment of the competition and the level of opponents as well – but we’re ready.”

Riveiro is set to leave the club at the end of his three-year contract at the end of June, with the club confirming the decision last week which reverberated around the continent.

However, the Spaniard says there’s no focus on the future beyond the game tomorrow against the Algerian Ligue 1 champions.

“I think we have a massive game tomorrow that requires and demands our full concentration and the best of our capacity as a technical staff, the guys as football players, they are the ones who are going to work outside at 6 o clock,” he said.

“We need to be 100% focus in that responsibility that is presented to us, there’s no place to think about anything else than giving our best tomorrow, that’s maybe the maximum we can think about our future, it’s tomorrow.

“I will say even today, we complete the MD-1 training, we need to continue with our preparations until kick-off then we gonna play the game.

“We’re going to try our best and then whatever is coming for us in future, let’s see but we’re just about to start the game and trust me, not the coach, or anyone else around is thinking about anything else than winning the game.”
