Riveiro Sends Message To Pirates Supporters

Orlando Pirates head coach says his inexperienced squad deserve unwavering support after moments of frustrations from supporters during their first leg semi-final against Pyramids.

Pirates managed to come out with a 0-0 draw at FNB Stadium with two goals ruled out by Video Assistant Refereeing (VAR) for the Egyptian Premier League leaders.

The Spaniard admitted it was a major challenge against the North African outfit but feels at times, the fans have been unfair with certain players as some of his players were subjected to some moans and groans at the Calabash.

“For me it’s the best team we played this season so far, a brave team who is playing this competition, not showing any kind of pressure of nerves in any game they play, in the game was a good example of that,” he said.

“I think we have to appreciate… that sometimes it looks like we don’t understand the stage where we are right now with this youthful team, unexperienced team.

“There were moments that supporters lost a bit of confidence in them as well after a couple of mistakes in our build-up and that’s the moments we need them the most because they know how to play football, we’re beating teams.

“It’s the way we managed to arrive at the stage of the competition, playing that kind of football, fighting for every competition, playing that kind of football and we need to, all of do, but I hope people outside can appreciate what these boys are doing each and every game.

“It’s game number 42, our run is second to none this season, so the moment we make a mistake is when we need their support behind and make sure together we can continue celebrating good games, like against Pyramids and hopefully more to come.”

Pirates now travel to Cairo to face the Egyptian side for the second leg tie at 30 June Stadium on Friday, with a place in the final of the CAF Champions League on the line.
