Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has been backed by former winger Mandla Masango to start delivering consistent results, should he be given more time at the helm.
Nabi has come under immense scrutiny in recent weeks with his job security being questioned by mans and media, while internally, talks were raised over potential replacements.
However after a crunch meeting within the club, which is said to have involved executive Chairman, Dr. Kaizer Motaung Snr. it’s said that the entire club agreed to pull in the same direction, with morale raised and excitment once again for the future of the project.
Added to this, the result of eliminating Mamelodi Sundowns from the Nedbank Cup semi-final to secure a Soweto Derby for the title against reigning champions Orlando Pirates, has changed the entire outlook of what this campaign could be for the club.
The chance of ending a trophy drought of over a decade is a reality, with Nabi in his fourth consecutive domestic cup final as a coach, as he reached two with Young Africans and the Throne Cup final with ASFAR last season in Morocco.
But the inconsistent results of this season, his debut campaign with Amakhosi, cannot be ignored, but Masango feels it’s a natural part of a rebuilding project.
“I think for any new coach, coming into a new club, whether it Kaizer Chiefs or any other club, you need to make the team play according to your standard and culture of the club,” Masango said about their inconsistent results this season at the SuperSportBets media event.
“So I think it was a matter to integrate the players and understanding what coach Nabi wants. as a coach and how he wants to play… also with bringing in new players into the environment, maybe some are still young and have not won anything.
“So with Nabi trying to integrate that them and cooking for the country to be happy. So let’s continue, it takes time to cook you now, if he can carry on with what he’s doing, I think we can have a happy country.”
Nabi will be aiming to continue the positive trajectory with Chiefs when they travel to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday to face Chippa United in the league.
