Kaizer Chiefs forward Ashley du Preez believes the 2025/26 season brings a fresh page and they can compete for every trophy on offer.
Du Preez, 27, will be aiming to get back to the form that earned him a move from Stellenbosch to Chiefs in 2022 and help the squad in what’s set to be a gruelling season with the league, Carling Knockout, Nedbank Cup and CAF Confederation Cup on offer.

While they missed out on the 2025 MTN8 after finishing ninth in the league, they returned to CAF inter-club competitions when they lifted the Nedbank Cup title and ended a decade-long trophy drought.
And now Du Preez, who has scored 19 goals with eight assists in 84 games for the club, says it’s time to start believing they can turn the corner as one of the sleeping giants of South African football.
“I can’t wait for the league to start and everyone starting on a clean page to write history, but us as a club I think we can start competing for the league, the first game is a tough game against Stellenbosch,” he said.
“I think we can compete for everything this year, for the league, the cup but we need to… from day one, be 100 percent sure we can compete to win the league.”
“The pre-season in the Netherlands was amazing, we learnt a lot there, I think we can take this to the league, the way we played, the way we competed against high level teams in the Netherlands,” he added.
“It was a good pre-season, as a team we were good together, we had good energy, with the same mindset with what we want to achieve this season – so for me, we can take that pre-season into the league and play every game on the highest level to compete.
“So yeah, I’m very excited for the season and all the players are excited. As a player you need to set goals and work towards it and reach those higher levels.”
Chiefs open their campaign on Sunday at Athlone Stadium against Du Preez’ former club Stellenbosch, who finished third in two consecutive seasons now.
