Former Orlando Pirates coach José Riveiro has insisted he has no regrets about leaving his former side, saying the decision was never about where he was headed but did reveal one thing he didn’t like about his exit.
Riveiro enjoyed a successful stint with the Buccaneers, where he won five domestic Cups, helped the side finish second twice in the league and reach the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League.

However he left Pirates before the previous season could end, joining Egyptian giants Al Ahly where he lasted only three months.
Speaking on Sports Night Live with Andile Ncube on Tuesday the Spaniard clarified that his decision to leave Pirates was made a long time before Ahly came into the picture.
“No, no I don’t use to look back in life,” answered Riveiro when asked if he has any regrets.
“It was a decision that was made in some certain circumstances. So to think about the same thing now in different circumstances it doesn’t make any sense.
“It’s easy to make decisions with tomorrow’s journal like we used to say. I don’t know if people understood the nature of my decision at that time but I didn’t leave Pirates because I moved to Ahly.
“It was a decision that was made a long, long, long time ago and Ahly came later.”
However, he also insisted that he didn’t like departing before the season in South Africa ended but admitted it was a requirement by Al Ahly due to the FIFA Club World Cup.
“The only thing that I didn’t like about what happened was the fact that I must move before the season ends. I wasn’t happy about that. I was not really happy but it was a must from Ahly,” he added.
Ribeiro is currently back in South Africa due to his involvement in the Carling Black Label campaign.
