Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has predicted that Marumo Gallants will cause an upset and win the Carling Knockout Cup against Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
The two sides meet in the league cup decider at the Peter Mokaba Stadium at 18:00, with many looking at the Buccaneers as favourites. Pirates have already won one domestic cup this season and sit at the top the log ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations break.
Bahlabane ba ntwa claimed the scalps of Mamelodi Sundowns, Stellenbosch and Golden Arrows on their way to the final and have managed to drag two of these games to a penalty shootout.
Khanye says Pirates will dominate the game and likely create the most chances, however Gallants have it in them to hold them and will either win the game in extra-time or on penalties.
“I’m giving this one to Marumo, they are going to surprise people,” said Khanye on IDiski Times.
“Of course they are playing against good players and honestly Pirates will dominate and will create chance after chance but Marumo will make it hard from Orlando Pirates. I suspect they will play 5-4-1 but Pirates’ defence can also be like that of Sundowns.
“I suspect the game will end in a draw and between extra-time and penalties Marumo Gallants they are going to win the game.
“Pirates will attack non-stop and I suspect that Rele [Relebohile Mofokeng] will start and also [Tshepang] Moremi on the right and Evidence [Makgopa] central. [Oswin] Appollis will come on as a sub. Their line-up is predictable, yes they have some surprises but there are positions they hardly change.”
