Former Maritzburg United defender Happy Mashau has completed a move to Motsepe Foundation Championship side Lerumo Lions, marking the latest chapter in his well-travelled football career.
Mashau rose through the ranks of Maritzburg’s reserve team before earning promotion to the senior side. The club later rebranded as Durban City.
He spent two seasons with the first team before moving on to captain Royal Eagles, a club that later rebranded as Royal AM. Royal AM were subsequently expelled from the PSL last season, bringing an end to their top-flight participation.
Following his time in South Africa, Mashau took his career abroad, plying his trade in Kosovo with KF Trepca 89 before securing a move to fellow Kosovan side KF Vllaznia. He later returned to the African continent to feature for DR Congo outfit DC Motema.
Mashau then made his way back to Kosovo for a second spell with KF Trepca 89, gaining further valuable experience in European football before sealing his move to Lerumo Lions.
The defender penned a six-month contract with an option to extend for one year at Leruma.
“He signed six-month contract plus one year option,” his agent Lebohang Mashishi confirmed to iDiski Times.
“Happy spent the past four years playing abroad. He was in the Premier League football in Kosovo, Europe and DRC for Congolese traditional giants DCMP Matema Pemba.”
Mashishi says they want to revive Mashau’s career in the domestic scene before they try again to send him abroad, particularly “Eastern Europe or Middle East”.
“We’re looking to revive his career locally, getting minutes in his legs again and ultimately looking at options again in Eastern Europe or the Middle East so time will tell,” he added.
