Bafana Bafana defender Siyabonga Ngezana has undergone surgery which looks set to rule him out of action for the next six weeks, his club FCSB confirmed.
Ngezana, 28, came into the new campaign as the Romania Superliga Defender of the Season and cemented his spot in the senior national team under head coach Hugo Broos where he featured in every minute of their run towards the last-16.

However, he made just one league appearance since returning to his club, and two in the UEFA Europa League before it was discovered that he’d been playing with an injury in recent weeks.

The club’s General Manager, Mihai Stoica, told Fanatik; “Ngezana will undergo surgery. I think he will be out for about 6 weeks.
“He has a meniscus injury. Now it is explained. It is incomprehensible that he, probably thinking about the national team, forced himself, played like that, did not play at the level he used to.
“We don’t understand why such a valuable player would have such a steep decline, but he was injured and playing with problems. At least now the mystery has been solved.”
Ngezana has been a key figure since joining the Romanian giants with 104 appearances to his name, winning two league titles and two Super Cup trophies in his first two seasons.
He will now be in a race against time to be fit for the 2026 FIFA World Cup preparation friendlies against Panama which are scheduled to take place between 27-31 March in South Africa.
