Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana says the squad is driven by a collective hunger to surpass last season’s achievements, as Masandawana enter the business end of the campaign with silverware firmly in their sights.
With the Betway Premiership title race heating up, the experienced centre-back has called on his teammates to maintain their standards and leave nothing on the table as the season reaches its decisive phase.
“I think we know what’s at stake, we know what awaits us at the end of the season if we keep going, it’s our biggest motivation, also to better what we did last season,” Kekana said.
The 33-year-old, who has been one of Sundowns’ most consistent performers this season after battling back from injury, says the mood within the camp is exactly what is needed at this stage of the season.
This after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Durban City in mid-week before they travelled directly to Tunis for their first leg CAF Champions League semi-final against Esperance Sportive de Tunis.
“All the boys are hungry, showing desire, they have that will to win — and it’s very good for us as a group,” he added.
“At this point of the season, we can’t afford anyone to slack and we’re moving together as a unit.”
The Brazilians are pushing on both the domestic and continental fronts, and Kekana has continued his impressive run with the club, featuring 25 times across all competitions.
