Chippa United coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has made an honest admission about his side following a heavy defeat at the hands of AmaZulu.
The Chilli Boys went down 5–1 in a Betway Premiership clash at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, despite opening the scoring.
Speaking to the media after the match, Vilakazi noted that while his side controlled possession for spells, they lacked a cutting edge in front of goal.
He also admitted the squad no longer shows the same hunger it had when he first took charge.
“I think many times I try by all means to protect my team and to protect my players,” said Vilakazi.
“But I think they need to align their minds in terms of making sure that they dig deep and think of the badge of the club more than themselves. The contribution, I think is no longer the same. When I arrived in this team, there was hunger.
“There was that ambition that we would definitely save the team. But I think that faded a bit. Now, I see my players being too relaxed now and being complacent in terms of making sure that the team does not go down. But it’s unfortunate.
“We will try and redeem ourselves. We have no other option but to make sure that we redeem ourselves.”
Chippa are 13th in the league standings with 24 points after 26 matches they have played now. They are next in action against Sekhukhune United on 5 May.
