Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef believes four Amakhosi stars would deserved to be called up to the Bafana Bafana team based on their performances this season.
The Glamour Boys held rivals Orlando Pirates to a 1-1 draw in the Soweto Derby, with Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen receiving the Man of the Match award after making six saves.
When asked about Petersen’s performance and whether he deserves to be with Bafana, Ben Youssef agreed with the sentiment but insisted the likes of Bradley Cross, Lebohang Maboe and Thabiso Monyane should be considered, too.
“I think it’s not only Petersen, we have about four or five players who are putting big pressure for the coach, and would fit for him,” he said after the derby.
“I think it will be tough for him to decide. I think Petersen before the injury he was showing good performances.
“He was working very well with his coach, Mzoughi. And I think that from my point of view he deserves to be in the national team, regarding his performance, not as a gift but it’s because of his performance.
“Same for Cross, same for Maboe, same for Monyane. I think they are pushing and I think it’s time that a player from Kaizer Chiefs gets the chance to be in the national team.”
Chiefs return to action on Wednesday when they will face Siwelele FC in Bloemfontein.
