IDiski TV analysts Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi and Junior Khanye have shared their views on referee Luxolo Badi’s officiating in the Betway Premiership match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.
The game ended 1-1 at Loftus Versfeld, with Sundowns ending with 10 men after midfielder Jayden Adams received a second yellow card.
The match proved to be physical affair, with both sides suffering injuries to key players as a result of the physicality.
Both analysts felt strongly that Chiefs midfielder Siphesihle Ndlovu ‘got away with murder’, even though he appeared to be the biggest transgressor on the night.
Tso felt that Adams’ second foul should have been slap on the wrist, while he was surprised Ndlovu wasn’t given his marching orders even earlier than Adams for some of the fouls he committed.
“One player that was supposed to be out early is Ndlovu,” said Tso on iDiski TV.
“I know he was working hard in the midfield but he continued to make fouls. He got a yellow card, okay fine maybe got away with getting one in the second foul, but he shouldn’t have gotten away with a third and fourth foul. We can’t have that.
“The referee for me I’d say he was biased in that sense, not a good performance from him. I’m worried because it’s the referee and also his assistants they were not in the game today. Let’s say Adams that’s a dive but to give him a yellow card, he’s not inside the box.
“For me that wasn’t really a dive. I mean football is a contact sport he [referee] should have allowed the game to continue because Chiefs had the ball already.”
Meanwhile for Khanye though he agrees that Ndlovu should have walked first, he says Adams also deserved his red card.
“I think the referee decided the game today,” added Khanye.
“The decisions he took on both teams, the offisides. I don’t have a problem with him giving Jayden Adams a red card, especially after kicking Mdu [Shabalala] he didn’t have intentions to play the ball there.
“But before giving Jayden the red card he should have showed it to Ndlovu. Ndlovu deserved a straight red card, that’s a fracture on [Keanu] Cupido and now Cupido may be out for a long time away from work. That was a blunder from the referee and his assistants.
“Ndlovu also hit [Khuliso] Mudau with an elbow and even held Jayden Adams. He got away with it. Adams was judged for diving I don’t mind him getting a red card for doing that but Ndlovu should have seen red first.”
