Sundowns Hit Seven Past Siwelele In 11-Goal Thriller At Moripe

Mamelodi Sundowns thrashed Siwelele 7-4 in a chaotic penultimate Betway Premiership fixture of the season as they looked to improve their goal difference in the title race.

In was an end to end affair unfamiliar to both sides this season, with Sundowns looking to better their goal-difference against Orlando Pirates – who now have the edge, while the visitors who secured safety, were looking to show some finesse in their final games.

Lehohonolo Seema’s side have lost just twice since the turn of the year, including tonight’s defeat at Lucas Moripe Stadium, characterised by discipline and defensive structure, but that went out the window from as early as the seventh minute.

Teboho Mokoena opened the scoring with a low volley, before Tashreeq Matthews and an Nyiko Mobbie own goal saw them race away as early as the 24th minute.

Ghampani Lungu managed to pull one back with a tap-in but Tashreeq Matthews restored their three-goal advantage before Bryan Leoń made it 5-1 before the break.

Five minutes into the second half, Lungu made it 5-2 to offer a glimmer of hope for the visitors but Leoń netted two more in the space of nine minutes, which was the sixth and seventh goal for Sundowns.

It appeared at one point that every attack would turn into a goal and Relebogile Mokhuoane got in on the action with a rare strike, on the 65th minute mark, beating Ronwen Williams at his near-post.

But after the frenetic football, Sundowns only improved their goal-difference by three, as Lungu netted his hattrick, bagging the last one from the spot, as Sundowns secured three points and four goals behind Orlando Pirates who face Magesi at 20h00.
