Record-breaking Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine has refused to be compared with the club’s great past goalkeepers in Senzo Meyiwa and Moeneeb Josephs.

Despite claiming a league and club record of 21 Betway Premiership clean sheets in a single campaign, Chaine has reserved nothing but respect and special praise for the club’s legendary duo between the sticks at the Soweto giants during their playing days.

The former Bloemfontein Celtic and Chippa United goalminder racked up another clean sheet as the Buccaneers recorded a 2-0 win over relegated ORBIT College to be crowned league champions for the first time in 14 years, coincidently claiming a domestic treble just like the squad of 2012.

Having been posed with questions throughout the campaign on where he would rank himself among the late Meyiwa and Josephs, Chaine was quick to dismiss comparisons saying he looked up to both.

“It’s a special feeling to be able to represent that. It’s quite remarkable,” as per Siya_says on Instagram.

“They always put up a question of where you rank with the past goalkeepers.

“Some things are just priceless. You can’t rank yourself with somebody you look up to.

“You can’t be able to put yourself in a sentence with people that put you to get where you are.

“It’s like your mentor. Someone you look up to, no matter how much you can achieve.

“You always see yourself as that small little kid from Bloemfontein looking up to Senzo Meyiwa, to Moeneeb Josephs.

“And for you to be able to in those type of shoes, it’s something you can’t really.

“For me hearing that throughout the season, it’s quite special, really special.

“I feel honoured to be where I am, and I’m not worthy be where I am today.”
