iDiski TV analyst Junior Khanye says Orlando Pirates attackers Relebohile Mofokeng and Oswin Appollis should be in the running for the Player of the Season debate.
The duo was instrumental in the treble-winning campaign that also included the Betway Premiership honours, their side’s first in 14 years. Mofokeng scored 10 goals in the league and had eight assists while Appollis netted nine with six assists.
Khanye said the youngsters were counted among the best with Mofokeng showing growth while he was proven wrong by Appollis who joined the Buccaneers from Polokwane City at the start of the season.
“These two players, take nothing away from them, give them a round of applause,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.
“I mean Rele in his first season he won Young Player of the Season award. In his second season he was a contender for Player of the Season.
“When Appollis joined Pirates, I doubted him that’s true because I had questions like how did he go to SuperSport [United] development and couldn’t rise to the senior side. There were proper structures and top coaches in that development.
“But well done to Appollis for also using his second chance and he also stands to win something individually.
“These are the two players in the Betway Premiership that were competing with the likes of Tebza [Teboho Mokoena], Jayden Adams, [Marcelo] Allende and Nuno [Santos].
“And I think they deserve awards.”
