South-African born left-back Lucas Jetten has joined newly promoted Eredivisie club SC Cambuur, ending his 11-year stay with Dutch giants AFC Ajax.
Jetten, 18, rose through the ranks at Ajax after joining the club as a seven-year-old and landed a professional contract with the first team.
However, he only featured with the Jong Ajax side in the second-tier of Dutch football after reaching the pro ranks, with 62 appearances, one goal and three assists.
While he made the match day squad for the first team on several occasions and was named 2024 Academy Player of the Year – he’s now left the club seeking regular first-team football.
Jetten, who was born in South Africa and adopted by a Dutch family who lived and worked in the country, has signed a three-year deal with an option to extend.
“Lucas had been on our radar for quite some time. When it turned out he was actually available, we immediately set about bringing him in,” says technical director Lars Lambooij.
“With Lucas, we are bringing in a talented player who was named the greatest talent of Ajax’s youth academy a year and a half ago for good reason.
“He is not only a good defender but is also technically gifted and comfortable on the ball. He combines this with great stamina and energy in his game.
“We are therefore very pleased that we have been able to convince him of our club’s ambitions and plans.”
Jetten has featured 32 times for Netherlands national teams at youth level from U15-U21 but remains eligible to represent South Africa at senior level.
